(I have written about the blue ladies as more than just a joke & how they tie into jake’s suppressed gender non-conformity/ vintage closet homosexuality here) Jake ultimately sets future events in a way in which he ends up taxidermized himself, by implied choice, which is textually referred to (by jade) as something she associated either with: 1) “the Blue Lady has killed him” when she was a child or 2) “It was a suicide” when she grows old. “Hey what is the significance of that bit where Jake fights Meenah in the dream-bubbles” ) “Hey why is it important that HIC bombs alpha Jake’s house and kills his guardian leaving him stranded in a monster island” Haha, you should think about it! Jake’s dog dad and Jade are kept at the top of the tower, while he sits at the judgement clock.
“Taxidemeritation” is the troll term for it, which also sits in comparison to how alpha Jake refers to taxidermy as a loving family honor/tradition to remember their dead by. (In Beta earth, Jane leaves as an adult to live a normal life, while Jake is left with the company, releases SBURB and implicitly goes mad as a tool of the narrative.) Jake’s link to Alternia is in fact thematically relevant to the game as a whole, and cycles of systemic childhood damage that lie therein. HIC pays special attention to female heiresses only, as both a threat and potential successors (but mostly a threat, and tools) Jake’s psyche is impacted by how running away from home has led him down horrible paths until he acquiesced to the Crocker corporation, and it ripples through him. I think it’s interesting how act 2 reveals the empress has a practice of taxidermizing soldiers as a way to demote them for/ from life, esp bc everyone forgets HIC raised beta Jake as an ultimately bastard child -how Jane’s grandparent is mounted inside her house, as an inversion of him.
